The Platform

Updated: Mar 18

Fatima Heyward, a dedicated advocate for service, youth empowerment, and justice, has honed her leadership skills through her service in various roles on the local, state, and national levels to support Young Democrats. Her platform is a reflection of her commitment, with a focus on the following priorities:

  • Organizational Infrastructure: To ensure Young Democrats of America is able to reach its fullest potential and make an impact nationwide, we must ensure that our infrastructure is where it needs to be. This involves a deep review of internal operations, existing roles, vacancies, and more. With a track record for streamlining communications, empowering leadership team members, and strengthening systems in place, Heyward is the right candidate for the job.

  • Fundraising: As a seasoned frontline fundraiser, Fatima Heyward recognizes that financial health is essential for the success of any organization. Her strategic fundraising plan for the Young Democrats of America aims to ensure our financial stability, allowing us to support chartered units, sponsor events, and invest in candidates who align with our values.

  • Resources and Opportunities for Young Democrats leaders: The Young Democrats of America is positioned to lead the youth movement. Heyward will prioritize providing real resources and opportunities for YDA leadership and its network, ensuring we cultivate the youth movement with top talent equipped with the necessary tools and resources to succeed.

  • Chartered Unit Tailored Support: As a longstanding chartered unit president of the New Jersey Young Democrats, Heyward recognizes what it takes to lead with purpose. While all chartered units share a universal goal, the needs differ state by state and territory by territory. Under Heyward's leadership, regional vice presidents will have clear guidance and support in executing tasks and supporting their regions. In addition, Heyward will play an active role in what's happening across chartered units to ensure there are no gaps in communication, support, or needs.

  • National Electoral Strategy: Every year, elections are held across the country. It's time for the Young Democrats to strategize and mobilize. Heyward will prioritize developing a plan in collaboration with the executive board to outline the electoral strategy for Young Democrats, ensuring that every chartered unit has a voice and receives support. Her vision focuses on getting Young Democrats and allies elected to office while also strategizing on how to galvanize volunteers, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
